biography
Purbayan started performing from the age of 5 and has had an international career of more than 25 years today.
He has learnt Sitar from his father Parthapratim Chatterjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has also trained in vocal music from Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty and in rhythm from Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. Purbayan’s music is inspired by the style of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee of the Senia Maihar Gharana.
Purbayan has toured extensively in all the continents of the world in many prestigious festivals and venues. He has
developed a sound of his own which embodies the
completeness of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and is enhanced by the contemporary feel of his own sensitivity.
